Norbury Manor Primary School

Year 4 Visited the British Museum

At Norbury Manor Primary School, we believe in providing our pupils with enriching educational experiences that expand their horizons and ignite their curiosity. Recently, our Year 4 pupils had the opportunity to visit the esteemed British Museum, where they embarked on a journey to explore the captivating history of the Maya civilisation.

As part of their History topic on the achievements of non-European societies, our Year 4 pupils set out on the 11th of October 2024 to uncover the fascinating story of the Maya. Through this visit, they sought to answer the big question, "Why should we remember the Maya?"

This educational excursion perfectly aligned with our school's core values of Scholarship, Empathy, and Thankfulness. Our pupils demonstrated their thirst for knowledge, eagerly engaging with the museum's exhibits and asking insightful questions. They also showed empathy towards the Maya people, considering their cultural and historical significance, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn about this remarkable civilisation.

During their visit, the children had the chance to immerse themselves in the Maya's way of life. They explored artefacts, examined intricate carvings, and even participated in interactive displays that brought the Maya's achievements to life. This hands-on approach to learning allowed our pupils to deepen their understanding and appreciation for the Maya's remarkable contributions to the world.

The visit to the British Museum also embodied our school's values of Resilience and Community. Our pupils navigated the museum's vast exhibits with determination, overcoming any challenges they faced along the way. Additionally, the shared experience of exploring the Maya's history fostered a sense of community among the Year 4 cohort, strengthening their bonds and encouraging collaborative learning.
