What is the Sports Funding?
Since academic year 2013/14, the government has provided funding of £150 million each year to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. It will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and P.E; each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year for the next three years - here at Norbury Manor that will mean around £9,935 a year. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. More information can be found on the by clicking here.
Purpose of the funding
Schools will spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Examples include additional sport clubs, equipment to support P.E and hiring specialist P.E teachers/qualified sport coaches.
At Norbury Manor we recognise the contribution of P.E to the health and well-being of the children. In addition, it is considered that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children.
Use and Impact of the Funding
At Norbury Manor we use the funding provided to partly subsidise the work of our school sports coach and to join the Croydon School Sports Partnership.
